Why did you decide to co-op?
I decided to Co-op because I wanted a big boost to my resume that would really make me stand out. A co-op was the perfect way for me to get some real world experience before I go into the workforce.

What types of projects did you work on?
I worked a lot with conceptual site design, storm water pollution prevention plans, and I did some grading for a few projects. I also went on-site several times where I did compaction testing and construction observation.

Describe your relationship with your mentor(s) and other colleagues:
I had a really good relationship with everyone at SynTerra. I had the opportunity to work with some really great people who all had valuable experience that was shared with me.

What was your most memorable moment on assignment?
Being on-site doing compaction testing was a very memorable moment. I like being able to see the work I do in the office being implemented in the field.

What aspect of your co-op assignment do you feel will be the most beneficial after you graduate?
The interaction with coworkers, working with several different engineering softwares, and doing on-site work are all beneficial.

What advice do you have for other students looking to complete the co-op program?
Be a go-getter! Ask for a lot of work in different fields of civil engineering. Get a feel for every aspect of your company. This was beneficial to me because it helped me realize what I like to do and what I don’t like to do.
