S.C. Experiential Learning Grant: Intern&Earn

The Center for Career & Professional Development is excited to announce the S.C. Experiential Learning Grant: Intern&Earn, a state-funded pilot program for undergraduate students engaging in off-campus internships and co-op experiences in Summer 2024. The following information is specifically for off-campus internship students.

Students enrolled in an eligible INT course and accepted into the S.C. Experiential Learning Grant: Intern&Earn program can qualify to receive supplementary funding for their internship experience. Students can receive additional monies for their experience ranging from $750 to $3250. The disbursements for this pilot program is dependent on variables like a student’s state residency and financial need and will be available until the grant monies are exhausted.

How to apply:

  • Be an undergraduate student who has secured an internship for Summer 2024, with a minimum number of hours worked during the internship to be at least 160 hours.

  • Complete the Internship Funding Request Form

Requirements of grant recipients:

  • Enroll in an eligible INT course (e.g., part-time internship: INT 1010/1020/1030, full-time internship: INT 2010/2020/2030, or international internship: 3010). This enrollment can be concurrent with a major-specific or program-required internship course. Rather than paying tuition, only INT fees ($200) apply unless other coursework is added to the schedule.

  • Funds will be disbursed to recipients via their student financial aid accounts after they have enrolled in a qualifying course.

  • Failure to enroll in or successfully pass the INT course will result in a "hold" placed on your Clemson account until the funds are repaid.

Summer 2024 Tiered Funding Structure:

$750 Out of State Student Residency
$1250 In State Student residency
$3250 First Generation or Low Income

Global Challenges Course:

  • If you are already enrolled in an INT course as an intern and need Global Challenges credit hours as part of your General Education curriculum requirement, INT 3500 and 3600 might be for you! For the first time, the Center for Career and Professional Development is offering an internship course that provides 3-credit hours towards the Global Challenges requirement. The INT 3500 and INT 3600 courses are intended to help explore how we form concepts of professional and cultural differences and customs.

  • Correlating INT 1000-level courses (part-time internships) and INT 2000-level courses (full-time internships) are to be taken in conjunction with this course. To register for Global Challenges INT 3500 (part-time internship and 3-credit hours) or Global Challenges INT 3600 (full-time internship and 3- credit hours), you must be enrolled simultaneously in one of the above INT 1000 or 2000 level courses.

The opportunity needs to be tied to specific Clemson University majors or fields of interest, supervised by a professional working in the field, and the majority of the work needs to be non- administrative/non-manual labor. In short, a quality internship should outline either a strong shadowing experience with specific learning outcomes, or an assigned project with clearly stated responsibilities/expectations.

The internship should be conducted within the Summer 2024 term. This lasts from the first day of classes to the last day of classes, as listed on the Academic Calendar. The minimum number of hours worked needs to be 160 hours or more.

Student Financial Aid is responsible for awarding and disbursement of Experiential Learning Grants through Banner. Once funds are disbursed and a credit occurs on the student’s bill, the refund is processed through Student Financial Services based on account information provided by the student. In the event the student will exceed overall need or cost of attendance with the awarding of these grant funds, either loan or scholarship adjustments may occur. These adjustments could result in the student receiving a partial grant or the grant will be fully utilized to offset an overaward resulting in no refund. Student Financial Aid works in collaboration with the Co-op and Internship offices throughout these processes.
